A Cowl of a Tale

So... we're back. Yep. I managed to get some photos at the beach. Here are a few of them worth showing:

Sorry they're so bad. I took them on a Kodak, not with my Canon.

I have been crocheting, too, and here's two recent projects.

Yep. Not much else. So, how've you guys been while I've been AWOL?

Making Good Time

We've all tried to get back to normal lately, and we're halfway there. Thanks.

During that time, I've been crocheting.

I pulled this out to start working on it tonight;

 & I made some new potholders;

& I started ANOTHER blanket;

& I started ANOTHER blanket;

& I made a small banner to display my pins.

What have you been working on??

Geeking Out, Crocheting Now

So I HAVE been crocheting! Ha-ha-HA!

I've just finished a two-part project that is both a double-first for me, and one that I can't tell you how giddy with proud I am of it! The firsts are blocking and cross-stitching, and I'm soooo happy that I didn't muck it up! I'm also proud 'cause... aw, just let me show you the pictures!!!

I made them with Super Saver in Cornmeal and Gold.

As I said, very, very, very proud.

I can't wait to see them every morning!

May I Wish For The Cold?

The weather will not make up its mind here. It was 60 last weekend, and, as predicted by Momma, this weekend should be somewhere in the teens. All for my birthday? Yay! I love cool weather! That way I can wear my scarves and hats and fingerless gloves and such!

It's raining today. A very good day to read. And to crochet.

I hope that it's rainy wherever you are so that you don't make to do much more than kick back and knock out a couple chapters.

Happy December!

It's December! Wow! I can't believe it.

Well, I kinda can.

We've been putting up Christmas decorations around the house. I'm living in Christmas! I wish I could leave the stuff up all year 'round. LOVE IT!!!!

Now, there's something that happened a couple weeks ago that I keep forgetting to tell you guys.

It was a rainy Wednesday, and I had to go to my orthodontist for my braces. Well, Daddy came with me & Momma. After going for braces, we always go to the Aldi's that's on our way. I was crossing back into the parking lot after returning the cart, when something like a traffic jam happened. I half expected my parents to come pick me up at the front of the store, and they were, but a car raced in behind them, only to make a complete mess out of an ordinary situation. I realized that They'd have to go to clear it up, so I started running to the car. I was skidding in the puddles by the time I reached the car, I swung open the sliding door and was in my seat in what seemed seconds. To complete it, Daddy sped up as we headed out of the parking lot. Then he narrated: "And the red Dodge van made its getaway after she was escaping from the mad Dr. Grief." Such an Alex Rider moment. Now, when I think of Adli's, I think of Alex Rider.

Okay, I just HAD to tell you that story.

Not much crocheting going on, just a little bit more worked on that Granny Stripe and then I put it in a project bag. I pulled out some Christmas colors, and I'm now working on a bag that I had thought up.

I've been too busy with Christmas to take any pictures! Ha!

So, this post was to remind you that I'm still here, still crocheting. Next time, I PROMISE, I'll have pictures. See you then!

Blankets, Books, and Music: How Familiar It All Is!

Yes, yes, I am alive! Daddy had Momma & me helping him remodel the inside of his truck. It looks amazing, and we got done yesterday! I also got to work on some long-forgotten projects. Blankets!

Yes, this lost-long lap blanket got the spotlight as I worked on it. I also found my 5.5mm hook tucked in its many folds... ah. I worked the most on it watching a hilarious-Daddy-commentary-worthy movie called Trollhunter.

And this one si finally done, thank heavens above! I now officially hate the pattern, but the colors are GORGEOUS!!!

As for Music, Allstar Weekend released their new album, All The Way. The color's really bright.

For Books, I'm reading The 39 Clues. While I'm waiting for Book 3, 4, & 5 to come to the library-I requested them a week ago-, I'm reading The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo Trilogy.

As it goes, I'm pretty satisfied with the blankets.
They look good in my opinion. Off on another blanket!

Rain Rain, Please Stay

It's raining here.

And the people on TV are freaking out!!!

Ha ha ha ha!!

We haven't had rain almost all summer, and we're expecting some thunderstorms and possibly some no-land tornadoes.

Alrighty.

Perfect weather to go around town in, huh?

It's Tuesday, and we went to Music today. And the library.

But now, I'm sitting in my puffy chair, wrapped in my latest blanket, typing on my laptop.

I just finished my book report on The Picture of Dorian Gray by Oscar Wilde.

And it's also a good day to curl up with a H.G. Wells seven-novel-set from the library. =)

And, maybe after that, some more crocheting on Daddy's Sweater.

Yeah, it's a good day.

Earthquake!

What I learned in school about earthquakes:

Curl up next to the wall and cover you head.
Pray that nothing falls on you.
Wait until your teacher tells to get up.
Go about your business.

Nothing prepared me for the earthquake today. I was sitting on the floor in my room, prepping my poster for the wall, when all of the sudden, the ground started to shake and Momma's china started clinking.

We freaked out.

She called Daddy, and after a few minutes, hung up, then turned on the TV.

(We watch CBS, BTW)

Scott Pelly came on and said that there's been an earthquake... it was classified as 5.9.

COOL!!!!!!

I honestly, never thought that there would be an earthquake here in NC. WOW.

So, after struggling to find CNN (It's NOT 205 or 202 on ours, it's 200. Figures.), I got on Facebook to see my friends' reactions.

I had three notifacations. Two on a "Happy Birthday" message I left a good friend, and a friend request. Jennifer Lawrence friended me!!!!!!

(Cue cricket noises)

She's an actress, mostly Indie movies. She's now currently filming the film adaption of my all-time favorite books, The Hunger Games, in Concord, NC, just less than an hour away from where I live! EEEEKKKK!!!!!

:~:~:+:~:~:

Fan shrieking aside, I organized my yarn stash yesterday. I sorted through lots of acrylic, and threw together what I couldn't/didn't want. I also wound up some yarn with my winder, and I have a blanket planned for after I finish my current blanket. =)

I have one picture of that hexagon blanket, and it's not very good, but here it is anyways:

I've been curling up with it, watching the BBC America channel, watching Top Gear, a new fave show.

Heat Wave

It's been hot like heck here, so I don't go outside during noon/afternoon/any-time-past-10-AM.

Well, out apple trees have been dropping apples, so guess who got to rake/clean them up?

I did.

It was HOT, and I just came in just a few minutes after 10.

With crocheting, I put up some of the big stuff and resorted to quick projects. It's hot, they're lighter, and I was instant results.

So what? The heat's made me inpaient.

Here are my projects from Monday to today:

Ah, I'm gonna go cook lunch. See ya later.

I'm a HG Junkie

I'm a total Hunger Games junkie....

It's so Sci-Fy, it's awesome.

So, bored out of mind on a 100+ degree day, I serched "The Hunger Games" on Raverly,

(BTW, I now have an account there!)

And I found this awesome lady who took the cover pictures and turned them into tapestry patterns.

I was even more amazed when she double up her pattern and made a

G-E-O-R-G-O-U-S

Catching Fire blanket! I just had to snag the picture and show you:

I have the pattern for it tagged, but I'm gonna have to wait until I can get enough yarn!!!

Tinker & Sugar

I watched Nat Geo's Documentery, 'The Photographers' today.

The movie is about, well, photographers for the Nat Geo magazine. It was made back when film was dominate, but it's still amazing. They talk about what it takes to get 'that perfect shot' for the magazine, and all the trials that they go through on a regular basis to get those amazing shots.

One guys said that it wasn't fun, it was work.

But, a more senior photographer said that it's his passion, and he couldn't think of anything else. And that the kind of photography that he does really makes you feel more human, more real, more aware of the world around you.

Can you guess whose opinion I like the most?

If the whole writing thing doesn't work out, I'd defiantly go for Nat Geo photography.

So, with the spirit that the movie gave me, I took some more pictures. Of Tinker and Sugar. Out of the near ninety, here are the over-all best:

"How Many Bugs Did They Test?"

The whole conversation between Daddy & my cousin, Nathan:

Daddy: Hey Nathan, you won't believe this, but sciencist have figured out what the last things is that goes throughs a bug's mind when he hits a windshield!

Nathan: NO way! What is it?!

Daddy: His butt.

Nathan: Really? How many bugs did they test?

That made us laugh, so, so, so hard.

Yeah, we had a lot of fun. Here's some pictures of the beach!

There was a surfing dude when I was taking the first round of pictures, so I just had to snap some shots of him surfing!

I'll do another post about our vacation in a bit.

Finally, Something Worth Blogging ABout

I've been in such an inspiration funk lately that, for the past few days, I was accutally waiting for th UPS guy. Around here, they can come as late as 5 PM. But it was worth it.

I ordered five books off of Amazon, but strangely, the order got messed up, and I only received three, while the other two haven't even shipped yet. And when they do get shipped, it will be with some of Daddy's stuff.

A really hilarious book. Full of stuff about being a crocheting and yarn.

Really interesting, though it doesn't say about the pattern if you want to, oh, say, do something Bavarian with only one color.

This one is hugely cool. I'll might just break out some regular yarn and work some of the tablecloths into beautiful blankets.

:~:+:~:

Well, while we're at the beach, I'm gonna be teaching my Aunt to crochet!

Her interest peaked when I gave her a crocheted blanket for Christmas.

It was a beautiful varied dusty red, tan, and brown granny squared blanket. It was a first-time blanket for me, since I sc'd it together instead of my wonky whipstitch. And, it was also my first time ever making flowers, which I made and sewed onto every other blanket. The flowers were an off-white-nearly-tan, and then I made smaller flowers with leftover yarn and sewed them onto the white-ish flowers. I seriously hope that you have a mental picture of it, since I don't have an accual picture of it! XD

Ever since I gave her the blanket, she's been wanting to learn, and finally we have a chance! So, I'm gonna try my best to be a lot better of a teacher than I was when I was teaching my Wed. nite class. It's only one person, so it should be easier, right??

Well, I hope that I can post soon.

I think I'll might actually start something with regular yarn in the thread book. I've got my eye on a B-E-A-U-T-I-F-U-L tablecloth.
